Love of reading (Philanagnosia) in greek education: A two-decade systematic literature review

Abstract: This systematic literature review explores the evolution and promotion of the love of reading, or philanagnosia, within Greek education from 2004 to 2024. The review highlights key trends, methodologies, and findings, focusing on how reading promotion varies across educational levels. Significant advancements include a shift from traditional methods to the integration of digital technologies, making reading more engaging and accessible. Socio-cultural factors, such as parental involvement and socio-economic conditions, play a crucial role in fostering a love of reading. Effective educational policies and programs have emerged, emphasizing curriculum integration, library development, and innovative initiatives like reading clubs and creative writing workshops. The review identifies positive impacts on students' cognitive, emotional, social, and creative development. However, challenges persist, including maintaining student interest, integrating programs into school culture, and ensuring equal access to resources. In conclusion, the review underscores the need for a comprehensive approach combining technology, socio-cultural support, and effective policies to cultivate a lifelong engagement with reading in Greek education.
