An assessment of student support services in Open Flexible Distance Learning (OFDL) system

Author(s): Amit Kumar Jain

Abstract: Open Flexible Distance Learning (OFDL) systems have succeeded in providing access to higher education to students who, for some reason, cannot study full-time at higher education institutions (HEIs) without the restrictions of time and space. OFDL system is one of the best alternatives to satisfy the growing demand of higher education with a variety of learners. In the OFDL process, teachers, students, parents, and institutions must continue the teaching and learning process despite the various limitations in comparison to the conventional system. The success of the Pen and Distance Learning has contributed to increased credibility and acceptance of the distance learning system as an effective mode of teaching-learning and student support services. Subsequently, student support services updates cause performance fluctuations and affect alumni satisfaction. This study is based on student support service quality and learner satisfaction as provided by the IGNOU Regional Centre Karnal Haryana and its learner support centres (LSCs). It is the result of the study that the majority of the respondents (49.20%) achieved their goal with the study from IGNOU, and 72.22% of respondents showed willingness to recommend IGNOU for study. The findings indicate a positive and satisfactory attitude among the learners towards the OFDL system.
