Abstract: India has overhauled its education system by launching the New Education Policy (NEP) in 2020. Implementing the policy resulted in the opening of the plethora of intricate choices in courses and other opportunities to undergraduate students in India. However, the acceptance and application of these choices require an awareness of them in the students. 104 undergraduate students participated in this quiz-based survey research that attempts to understand and examine different layers of actual and perceived awareness on NEP 2020 among undergraduate students from different states studying in various HEIs in India. Results reveal that there is moderate awareness on NEP 2020 with the highest awareness on those aspects of NEP that directly affect them in their education so far. Their perceived awareness also establishes similar results. Most of the information is disseminated to them through media and other sources, with their educational institutions playing very little role. Given that these students have a clear educational goal and planning and are positive about the benefits of NEP in the long run, their moderate awareness might lead to underutilization of the potential of NEP for them and can make them susceptible to stress. One of a few empirical research studies on NEP 2020, this research suggests creating a better NEP 2020 awareness in the students by the schools and HEIs to ensure their holistic education and wellbeing.
