Author(s): Sangeetha NR
Abstract: This study explores the role of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education in promoting sustainability practices in Anjengo Village, a coastal community in Kerala. Coastal areas face unique environmental challenges such as coastal erosion, marine pollution, and unsustainable fishing practices, requiring innovative solutions. This research adopts a mixed-method approach, combining surveys, interviews, and action-based learning strategies to assess the possibility of STEAM education on local sustainability efforts. A community-centered STEAM curriculum will be designed and implemented to enhance environmental awareness and encourage eco-friendly solutions, such as renewable energy, waste management, and sustainable fishing techniques. The study aims to measure knowledge improvements, behavioral changes, and the scalability of such an education model in similar coastal settings. Findings will contribute to policy recommendations for integrating STEAM-based sustainability education in coastal schools and communities, fostering long-term environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
