Education for sustainable development: An international perspective

Abstract: Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) has emerged as a global imperative in the pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4.7. This article explores ESD’s global frameworks, national implementations, and institutional challenges. Drawing from diverse international contexts, the study analyzes ESD’s transformative potential and proposes ways to embed sustainability in formal and informal education systems. The paper integrates insights from UNESCO, OECD, and empirical academic literature to offer a nuanced understanding of ESD’s evolving landscape.
