A role of daisy player in vocabulary building for students with visual impairment: A Review

Abstract: Visual impairment can significantly impact an individual's ability to acquire new vocabulary, as traditional teaching methods often rely heavily on visual aids. Assistive technologies, such as DAISY players, have emerged as potential solutions to bridge this gap. This study reviewed the role of DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) players as assistive technology tools that support vocabulary building for students with visual impairment through accessible digital content and user-friendly features. A systematic review was conducted, analyzing over 80 studies, with 15 selected based on relevance in using DAISY players in vocabulary development for students with visual impairment. The chosen studies evaluated the impact of DAISY technology on vocabulary acquisition, learning engagement, and accessibility improvements.The review highlighted the effectiveness of DAISY players in enhancing vocabulary learning through their navigational features, adjustable speech rates, and bookmarking options. The study state the effectiveness of DAISY players as it is reliable, accessible playback device compatible with assistive technologies. It emphasizes the need for expanding DAISY-compatible content to offer diverse learning materials and stresses the importance of integrating DAISY players into inclusive classrooms with proper teacher training for effective vocabulary instruction.
