A critical study of Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s socio-political activism in her works
Author(s): Suresh Kumar
Abstract: Ayaan Hirsi Ali, originally from Somalia, is a well-known critic of Islam, a strong political activist, and a dedicated social reformer. She is considered one of the most influential figures in current discussions about Islam's role in Western culture and is praised for her support of women’s rights. Although many people see her views as results of her personal hardships, her strong involvement in political activism is often overlooked. Her political ideas are mainly shaped by two ideologies: Islamic fundamentalism and Neoconservatism. As a teenager, she was involved in Islamic fundamentalism, and later, after moving to the Netherlands, she became connected with important neoconservative thinkers. This paper places her writings within the context of these two major influences. It also tracks how her opinions about Islam and Western values have been shaped by ideas found in democratic societies.
